Uncovering the History of an Alien Race
Since 2023 I am part of a project with the goal to translate the “Book of Holes”, a text with immense importance both in history and religion, provided by the alien Shokrafian Empire. I was brought on board by the lead researcher Guy Ben-Tov and have ever since served in the role of Art Director in unraveling the artistic side of the the “Book of Holes”. Through restoration, reinterpretation, careful artistic translations of visual concepts, I try to translate the rich artistic history of the Shokrafian history for human sensibilites.

The story of one prophet told in Tablets
“The Tablets of Holath” chronicle a key part of one of “The Book of Holes” most important figures, the prophet Goareth. These illustrations have originally been carved and painted on six-sided stone dice, each illustration connecting to the other five. They have been digitized, painstakingly restored and brought back to life to allow humans to experience Goareth’s journey of tribulations, betrayals and divine epiphanies.

Alien Art As one Visual narrative
A key part of my work on “The Book of Holes” is understanding and translating the visual language of Shokrafian art into a cohesive design structure. Often I work with very stylized and of course damaged artworks as well as the original text of the Book and other generously provided material. While my work of course will always be tinted through my own human sensibilities, I try to create an accurate and thorough visual library of the Proto-Shokrafians, as well as their culture, their clothing, their environments.
