A Reimagination of a classic

This commission by a client was for a reinterpretation of a “Magic the Gathering” card, namely the card for “Ygra, Eater of All” for their personal deck.

I always find it really interesting to take an existing concept and try and give it my personal spin. It is a really fun challenge and allows me to flex my storytelling muscles.

Finding the story underneath

With this redesign of “Ygra, the Eater of All” I wanted to tap more into cosmic horror than the original character’s design. My goal was to depict an otherwordly, ethereal, evershifting entity, traveling across universes and existences to devour planets, gods and cosmic beings beyond our understanding. I wanted Ygra to be an agent of uncomprehensible morals and motifs. Every hungry, ever seeking new sources of sustenance.
