The future issue
In 2023, infamous cartoonist magazine The Nib had a call for submissions for their final issue with the topic “Future”. On a whim, I decided to pitch an idea about smart technology and its pitfalls. And to my pleasant surprise, the pitch was accepted and I now had to develop a 6-page comic for one of the most prestigious American cartoonist publications. Exciting! Terrifying!
Smart Home invasion
The title page is a little cheeky nod to pulpy B-movie horror classics, but the core of the comic tells of a far more real horror: How we are being sold a lie about smart technology, and how it has slowly but steadily invaded our homes and lives.
From broken promises, planned obsolescence to ideal future visions, the comic details why we shouldn’t blindly trust what tech companies tell us.
